Ergo, I need a chair
For a period of at least 3 years I used an odd little blue chair with a Z-shaped frame that I found in a dumpster at RIT as my computer chair. It was in good shape and fairly comfortable. Well, comfortable for short spans of time.
After scoring a sweet articulating Humanscale keyboard/mouse tray on eBay, I decided it was time to upgrade my chair as well.
First I checked out Office Max, Office Depot, and Staples in Henrietta. I found that they had big glamorous “executive” chairs and tiny little home office chairs – above $200 and below $80 respectively. Next I went to Ted Cohen’s Office Furniture on Monroe Ave. When they asked $180 for a an unmarked beater from waaay in the back, I fled.
Finally, I made my way out to Len Rugg’s Office Furniture in Victor. They’re right in town at 10 East Main St. It’s only a ~15 minute drive from Rochester. Paul spent plenty of time showing me around and even ordered a new model which I came back to try out the next week. The pressure was low – he said he’d keep the model for the showroom if I didn’t like it.
I ended up buying a Raynor/Eurotech 49802A – lots of control and really comfortable. I paid something around $280 for it. I could’ve bought it from one of the internets for a little cheaper but local support is worth the extra cost IMHO.
