Old friends in Iowa
On Sunday morning I left Denver for Sioux City Iowa. I drove northeast for a few hours then dropped the hammer through the flat flatness of Nebraska.
I arrived sometime after midnight at the home of my elementary-school-era neighbors Tom and Noni. Tom directs an impressive tri-state air ambulance service and Noni hops from city-to-city daily, administering state-funded health care. They’re both active supporters of the local public radio station, KWIT, and Sioux City’s Orpheum Theatre.
Tom showed me around the hospital and adjacent heli-pad on Monday morning. Afterwards, he took me on a took a tour of a brand-new DHS-funded radio inter-op and computing facility complete with an isolated malware research lab.
I departed that afternoon for Iowa City to meet up with Sharon.
She introduced me to her cat, her friend Amee, and a good collection of U of Iowa folks. Sharon didn’t have a TV in her apartment. I was impressed `:]`.
It was bitterly cold at night but we kept warm with the aid a few delicious beers.
I departed Iowa city on Wednesday, dusting off my tinfoil hat, catching up on some PaulDotCom podcast episodes and motoring for the infosec conference with the least moose.
